At UDUYARS, we believe nurses are more than caregivers; they are front-line defenders in the battle against antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Recognising their unique role in both patient care and health education, we launched an engagement session at the College of Nursing Science, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, to equip tomorrow’s nurses with the knowledge and tools to prevent AMR.

Through this initiative, we reached 250 nursing students, using interactive discussions to highlight their critical responsibilities in infection prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, and patient advocacy. We also encouraged them to cascade this knowledge to their peers and future patients, positioning them as trusted AMR champions within the healthcare ecosystem.

Our ultimate goal for the project is to build a generation of informed, proactive, and empowered caregivers ready to lead the AMR response at the point of care.
