Our symposium titled “Uniting Forces: Bridging Science, Art, and Society in the Fight Against Antimicrobial Resistance through One Health” brought together over 600 participants, including students, faculty, health professionals, environmental experts, artists, and community leaders, at the University Auditorium of Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto.

The event featured keynote speeches and panel discussions that explored the intersections of human health, animal practices, environmental sanitation, and creative communication. This blend of expertise sparked rich conversations about AMR drivers; like antibiotic misuse in livestock and poor hygiene; and emphasised the critical importance of multidisciplinary collaboration and youth leadership.

Our symposium also integrated expressive formats; such as student-led presentations, poetry, and visual arts; to ensure AMR messages resonated beyond academic circles. Attendees worked in breakout sessions to co-create practical One Health strategies tailored to Sokoto’s unique challenges. Participants consistently described the event as “eye-opening” and “energising”, with many expressing renewed commitment to community-level advocacy.

This symposium demonstrated UDUYARS’ ability to use the one-health approach to contextualise global science, empowering a diverse generation of youth stewards to take action in their communities and advocate for AMR solutions at national and international levels.
